Five offline RPGs that don't need a single bar of signal

Finding a good RPG that runs offline is harder than it should be. So many mobile RPGs quietly demand a connection for daily check-ins or ads, and the second you lose signal, you're locked out. We went digging for the ones that don't.

At the top of our list is Ember of the Lost Vale, which we reviewed separately — a full turn-based campaign that lives entirely on your device. It's proof that ambitious storytelling can work without a server holding your hand.

What we look for is simple: local saves, no forced online sync, and combat that stays interesting past the first hour. Grindy time-wasters get cut fast in our testing.

If you're prepping for a long flight, download a couple of these ahead of time and check them in airplane mode before you leave. A quick offline test at home saves a lot of frustration at 30,000 feet.
